In 2024, Spain will be ranked as the top country for digital nomads, according to the full list.
Although return-to-office mandates have been issued post-pandemic, remote work continues and has transformed cities globally. However, some countries are more open to digital nomads than others.
In 2024, Global Citizen Solutions released its annual Global Digital Nomad Report, which ranked the top countries for digital nomads based on their accommodating nature. The report examined 65 countries that identified as such.
The report analyzed 12 key indicators and ranked the countries based on five sub-indexes.
- Visa costs
- Visa benefits
- Quality of life
- Economic environment
- Tech and innovation
According to Laura Madrid Sartoretto, the lead researcher at Global Solutions Intelligence Unit, the key takeaway from this year's report is that the countries that ranked highest were those that provided citizenship or permanent residency to their citizens.
Madrid Sartoretto says that more individuals are attempting to utilize these programs to obtain a second citizenship and take advantage of the mobility they provide.
Madrid Sartoretto stated that the United States was not included in the report because it does not provide a proper digital nomad visa, and only nine of the top 10 countries were in Europe.
