In 20 major U.S. cities, how much apartment space you can get for $1,500 a month.

A recent RentCafe report can assist renters in finding the best value for their money.

The report revealed that more than half of the top 20 cities with the most apartment space for $1,500 a month are located in the Southeast and Southwest regions of the United States.

In major coastal cities such as New York and Boston, renters are trading off square footage for equal monthly rent payments. For instance, Wichita, Kansas provides the most space for $1,500 a month with 1,359 square feet, while Manhattan, New York City residents pay the same amount and receive only 228 square feet.

In Texas, renters can obtain the most space for $1,500 in Lubbock, El Paso, and Corpus Christi. Meanwhile, major cities in California provide the least amount of space for the same price.

RentCafe ranked the 200 cities by calculating the price per square foot using the average rents and average size of apartments in multifamily properties of 50 or more units.

Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens are three boroughs in New York City that were analyzed by RentCafe. The study defined large cities as having a population of over 225,000 residents, while small cities were those with a population of less than 225,000 residents.
