If you're seeking remote work, don't forget to include this section on your resume, advises a career expert.
According to Monster's 2024 Work Watch Report, which surveyed 6,000 U.S. workers and HR professionals, 22% of workers consider remote work to be the most significant factor affecting their mental health and work well-being.
To increase your chances of landing a remote job, it's important to highlight your soft skills, such as communication, flexibility, and organization, on your resume, advises Toni Frana, a career expert from FlexJobs. Additionally, including a tech section on your resume can make you a more attractive candidate.
Frana states that when working remotely, you will be heavily reliant on technology, which includes utilizing communication tools such as Slack and virtual meeting platforms like Zoom and Microsoft Teams. To showcase your experience with these tools, follow these steps.
List 'digital messaging tools like Slack'
Review the job description to determine if the employer requires any specific technology knowledge.
Frana states that digital messaging tools such as Slack are commonly seen in job postings on FlexJobs. Additionally, Google Workspace, Dropbox, and meeting software programs like Zoom and GoTo Meeting are frequently used. Some companies also list project management software like Jira, Asana, and Trello in their job postings.
Frana suggests listing out a few remote tools that could be useful for the job, such as Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Slack, and Zoom.
Call it 'technology or technology skills'
Rewritten sentence: In terms of where to put the section, it should be one of the last ones on your resume.
Frana prefers to place the technology section at the end of her resume, following work experience or education, as it is not a crucial aspect but it showcases her proficiency with these tools.
You can call it "technology or technology skills," she says.
"She explains that including a visual representation of your ability to learn new technologies and current knowledge on your resume is a great way to give readers a snapshot of your skills."
