An innkeeper is needed for the East Brother Light Station, which is located on a small island off Point Molate in the strait between San Francisco and San Pablo bays in Richmond, California. The property includes a lighthouse built in 1874, a five-room inn that serves dinner and breakfast to guests, and a three-bedroom cottage used as the living accommodations for the innkeepers.

The ideal candidates for East Brother Light Station, Inc's job would be a couple who would manage the inn, while volunteers would continue to help maintain the lighthouse and grounds.

According to Tom Butt, the former mayor of Richmond and president of a nonprofit, the job is highly rewarding despite being extremely difficult. People often say they wouldn't trade anything in the world for the opportunity to do it, but they wouldn't do it again.

One of the applicants in the couple must possess a Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential boat operator's license to transport guests to and from the island.

The Coast Guard license is a must-have and cannot be wavered upon, as stated by Butt. The job listing specifies that candidates must possess hospitality experience and have a high level of culinary expertise and maid services for inn guests.

Butt says we're seeking someone who can work effectively with us and the public, and is genuinely passionate about the role.

The inn is open four days a week, from Thursday to Sunday, and offers day rentals and special occasion bookings.

The island lacks a wired phone, internet, and water pressure. The job posting prohibits both applicants from being smokers.

The East Brother Light Station is seeking new keepers to begin in April 2025, with two weeks of training commencing immediately.

The nonprofit is seeking innkeepers for its application, which opened in December and will remain open until they are found.

The East Brother Light Station nonprofit compensates the innkeepers by sharing the revenue from the inn and allowing them to keep any tips they receive, while also providing them with a health plan and living quarters.

In the previous fiscal year, from June 2024 to June 2025, the total revenue was approximately $381,000, and the innkeeper's salary was close to $139,000.

We don't care about the origin of the previous innkeepers as long as they are suitable.
