If you're seeking an additional income stream, there are plenty of easy side hustles to try, such as pet sitting, vacation rentals, or virtual assistance.

Another lucrative venture to consider is market research. Companies frequently conduct user testing before introducing products to the public to gather feedback. For instance, a CEO and editor of Sidehusl.com, Kathy Kristof, explains that companies may seek out individuals with particular backgrounds to ensure they test the product with the right audience.

Several methods exist for conducting market research, and the cost of each varies.

Individual opportunities

Several websites offer individual opportunities for market research participation.

  • The website offers various online surveys that require you to create an account and provide information about your background, such as family, health, and country of origin. Once you complete a survey that matches your qualifications, the site will notify you of potential opportunities. For instance, a survey may ask for women, take 10 minutes, and pay $25, or for web developers, take 30 minutes, and pay $200. The specifics of the demographic, time, and pay vary with each survey. You will be paid via PayPal.
  • User Interviews offers the option to create a profile and either apply to studies or wait for the site to suggest suitable ones based on your qualifications. Unlike surveys, studies are typically one-on-one interviews. The site provides examples of available studies, such as a 30-minute study paying $75 and a 45-minute study paying $200. User Interviews often compensates participants with gift cards from companies like Amazon and Target.
  • Rare Patient Voice is a platform that focuses on patients or caregivers, with illnesses and disorders ranging from asthma to diabetes to Alzheimer's disease. Participants can earn $120 per hour by sharing their input through surveys, interviews, or online communities.

Daniella Flores, a side hustle expert who runs the blog I Like to Dabble and uses they/them pronouns, has conducted surveys on Respondent. According to them, the cost per survey ranged from $15 to $100.

They claim that it's not possible to do it on a fixed schedule, but it can still be a lucrative way to earn some additional income.

Group opportunities

If you're interested in participating in market research groups, you can sign up on websites such as Find Focus Groups and Fieldwork. These sites offer various opportunities, including a $180, 90-minute study for dog owners and a $150, two-hour Zoom call for homebuyers. Fieldwork also pays $75 or more for studies, as stated on Sidehusl.com.

Both sites offer many in-person opportunities and Fieldwork also includes some individual studies.

Focus groups are more common than one-on-one interviews, according to Kristof.
