According to a recent RealtyHop report, the most expensive ZIP codes in the U.S. are found in affluent coastal areas, luxury vacation destinations, or exclusive enclaves where homes typically cost over $4 million.

The wealthiest ZIP code in the U.S. is Atherton, California, which is located near Stanford University. The median home price in this area is $7.75 million, and it is primarily driven by large estates owned by Silicon Valley executives, entertainers, and athletes such as NBA star Stephen Curry.

Other cities in California, Miami Beach, and the Hamptons, as well as mountain towns such as Aspen and Big Sky, are also known for their expensive real estate, with homes often selling for millions.

The median price for the most expensive ZIP code in each state, calculated across all states, is $1.55 million, according to the study. Mississippi is the most affordable state, with median-priced homes in Madison (39110) going for $465,000.

RealtyHop analyzed median listing prices for all types of homes in all U.S. ZIP codes between January 1, 2024, and October 15, 2024. Only listings with valid ZIP codes and multiple-building ZIP codes were included in the study.
