Despite 22 years on the professional tennis circuit and $185 million in prize money, Novak Djokovic remains unretired: 'Why would I want to stop now?'
Despite not being able to win any new titles, Novak Djokovic continues to compete at the age of 37.
The tennis player with the most Grand Slam titles, who has won 24 in his career, stated that he is not ready to retire yet.
Despite being surpassed in Grand Slam records by close rivals Federer and Nadal, Djokovic continues to excel.
Djokovic stated in an interview that he has been advised to retire after winning an Olympic gold medal in Paris. However, he acknowledges the sentiment but does not agree with it.
"Why would I stop now if I am still physically capable and feel confident in my ability to beat the best players in Grand Slams?"
Despite being the highest-earning player ever with $185 million in prize money, those close to Djokovic have suggested it might be time for him to try something new.
His dad has suggested that he consider exploring alternative ways to spend his time outside of his rigorous training routine.
"Djokovic stated, "Of course he comprehends my desire to continue, but he poses the question: What else do you wish to accomplish?""
While the 10-time Wimbledon champion recognizes that retirement is imminent, he devotes more thought to the "method" of ending his career than to the "timing" of it.
"If I start to lose more and feel like there is a bigger gap, I'll probably call it a day, but right now I'm still okay, so I'll keep continuing."
