Before becoming a successful NFL player, Tom Brady's resume from 2000 was not as impressive.
Since childhood, Tom Brady aspired to be a professional football player, inspired by quarterback Joe Montana. Despite graduating from the University of Michigan in 1999 and dreaming of playing in the NFL, Brady has admitted that he struggled in college and was not often selected as a top young athlete.
A backup plan may be necessary at any time, as demonstrated by Brady's creation of a resume highlighting his summer internships and school jobs when he was 22 years old.
Brady shared on Facebook in 2014 that he found his old resume, thinking he would need it after the 5th round, as the New England Patriots picked him in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL draft, making him the 199th overall pick that year.
In 1998 and 1999, Brady worked as a summer intern at Merrill Lynch in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he assisted a senior sales broker and gained exposure to upper-level management and company strategy. He also researched stock and mutual fund reports, updated client portfolios, and learned about broker activity and daily administrative duties.
Oliver Owens, Brady's boss at Merrill Lynch, stated that Brady stood out as an intern due to his hard work, positive attitude, punctuality, and adherence to deadlines.
Brady worked as a sales representative at two golf courses while interning at Lynch. The experience helped him develop interpersonal skills and showcased his flexibility, as stated in his resume.
Brady mentioned other unusual jobs, such as working as a park service manager at Ann Arbor Summer Festival in 1996, where he oversaw park security, gained practical experience in customer service, and managed inventory.
Brady earned a Bachelor's degree in General Studies with a 3.3 GPA, having taken courses in business and psychology.
Of course, Brady never needed to apply for a day job.
Brady, now 44, has announced his retirement from football after playing 22 seasons with the NFL. He has won seven Super Bowls with the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Despite being widely regarded as the greatest quarterback of all time, Brady said the title makes him "cringe."
