Auli'i Cravalho and her mother were on food stamps when she was cast in Disney's "Moana."

In a recent interview with "People," Cravalho, the voice actor for the titular chieftan's daughter in "Moana," revealed that she and her family lived in a one-bedroom apartment in Mililani, Hawaii when she got her big break.

"Cravalho, who was 14 when she was cast, stated that she slept in the bedroom while her mom slept on the couch. "She gave me everything," she added."

Her parents, who divorced when she was a child, cautioned her about the possibility of "Moana" not becoming a success, despite their efforts to help her maintain a balanced perspective.

"My parents were like, 'If [Moana] doesn't go anywhere, you need to finish high school. You need to do the dishes. You need to fix your bed. Don't let it get to your head,'" she said to the magazine.

Cravalho admitted that she sometimes "be a little s---" about doing her homework after the movie became a success. However, her mom quickly put a stop to it.

"She was the one who disciplined me," she said. "That was some tough parenting, but it also involved looking me in the eye and saying, 'You need to be kind and kind to me.' It was during those moments that I realized, 'Okay, I can't give all of myself to work.'"

""Mean Girls" received plaudits earlier this year for Cravalho's performance, while "Moana" has become the most streamed movie ever and a sequel is currently playing in theaters."

Despite her mom's sacrifices, the 24-year-old has worked hard to make amends with her.

"I bought my mother a house, and she's contentedly retired."

Margot Robbie, the star of "Barbie," disclosed last year that she kept track of her mother's money while trying to establish herself as an actress.

"At that time, she stated that she would borrow money from the house mortgage to lend it to me. Therefore, I was always aware that I had to repay the loan."

""When I had enough money, I paid off my mortgage in full, and told my mom not to worry about it anymore since it no longer exists," she said."

Chris Hemsworth, the actor who portrays Thor, used his earnings from Hollywood to pay off his father's debts, while Michael B. Jordan purchased a mansion to share with his parents.

"Buying a house for his parents was every kid's dream, including him," he stated in a 2018 interview. "It was a bucket-list thing for him."
