Apple introduces AI-enhanced updates for its devices: 5 practical features you'll appreciate.

Apple announced the release of enhanced artificial intelligence features on Monday, including an improved Siri, ChatGPT integration, image generation, and writing enhancement tools.

Apple Intelligence, the company's version of AI, will make its devices more effective as personal assistants by integrating with both the internet and the data stored on your phone.

The features will be available later this fall on devices using iOS 18, iPadOS 18, or macOS Sequoia, but Apple Intelligence integration will only be available on the company's most recent devices, including iPads and Macs running on M1 or M2 chips, as well as the iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro.

Apple claims that most AI requests will be processed directly on its devices, while requests that require more computing power will be handled by dedicated Apple servers. However, the company states that the data will not be stored or made accessible to Apple.

Here's a look at a few key features.

1. ChatGPT integration

Apple's devices will integrate OpenAI's ChatGPT chatbot function as an opt-in option for workflow.

2. AI-enhanced Siri

With Apple Intelligence, Siri will be able to access information from your apps and display it on your screen, enabling you to make more complex requests.

Siri will become more contextually aware and capable of comprehending both written and spoken requests, even when they are phrased poorly, according to the company. It will be able to execute tasks through other Apple applications, allowing you to schedule emails, send emails, or play a recommended podcast episode in a text message from a friend.

Siri can provide an accurate answer about Mom's flight landing time based on real-time flight tracking, contact details, and flight information from your email.

Rewritten sentence: Apple has stated that ChatGPT requests originating from Siri will have their IP addresses concealed and will not be retained by OpenAI.

3. AI-assisted writing tools

The new built-in AI feature, Writing Tools, will provide Apple users with system-wide access to text summarization, editing, and proofreading capabilities.

Original: "I would like to request a meeting with you to discuss the project." Rewritten: "Can we schedule a meeting to discuss the project?"

4. Image generation

The Image Playground, an app that generates images, will be introduced by Apple as a standalone app and also as a built-in feature in other apps such as Messages, Keynote, and Freeform.

You can describe an image in a few words and then have it rendered in a variety of styles. Additionally, you can create images of people listed as contacts on your device.

Apple unveiled "Genmoji," a feature that allows users to create custom emojis for use in Messages. By typing in a description, such as "T.Rex on a skateboard," the app will generate the corresponding image.

5. Real-time call transcripts

For the first time, Apple devices will have a built-in feature for recording phone calls, allowing users to record, transcribe, and summarize audio in both the Notes and Phone apps.

The Phone app will automatically notify participants when a recording is initiated.
