Another day, another streaming service raising its prices.

Netflix has announced that it is raising the prices of two of its ad-free plans by several dollars. The basic plan, which was recently phased out, will see its monthly bill go from $9.99 to $11.99, while the premium plan is increasing from $19.99 to $22.99.

Netflix has decided to keep its cheaper, ad-supported tier at $6.99 per month and its standard ad-free plan at $15.49 per month as it aims to improve profitability, according to CNBC reports.

The biggest names in streaming have increased their prices in 2023, following Netflix's official price hikes.

The cost of having ad-free subscriptions to Netflix, Disney Plus, Hulu, Max, and Prime Video was $50 per month when they first launched, but now it costs more than $80 per month at their current rates, which is an increase of over 60%.

These are the streaming price increases that have been rolled out in 2023.

Hulu

Disney raised the monthly cost of Hulu by 20% over the summer, from $14.99 to $17.99. The CEO of Disney, Bob Iger, stated that the objective of increasing the price of ad-free tiers is to encourage customers to opt for ad-supported subscriptions.

In January, HBO Max raised the monthly rate for its ad-free tier from $14.99 to $15.99. When it combined its content library with Discovery+ in May and became Max, it introduced a new, more expensive tier.

The "Max Ultimate Ad Free" subscription tier costs $19.99 monthly and includes more 4K UHD films and shows, the ability to stream on four devices simultaneously, and the option to download 100 movies or episodes for offline viewing.

Disney Plus

In October 2022, Marvel, Star Wars, and Pixar raised the price of their ad-free tier from $10.99 to $13.99 per month, following a previous price increase of $3 in December 2022. The company also introduced an ad-supported tier last year.

While Amazon Prime offers a free streaming service for its customers ($139 per year or $14.99 per month), you can also subscribe to "Fleabag" and "The Boys" separately for $8.99 per month.

In September, Amazon announced that it will start showing ads on some of its TV shows and movies next year. To watch "The Rings of Power" without ads, customers will have to pay an additional $2.99 per month.

Paramount+ With Showtime

Last month, the "Yellowjackets" streamer raised its price from $9.99 to $11.99, with Paramount CEO Bob Bakish stating that another price increase will occur in 2024 or 2025.

In 2023, YouTube's ad-free subscription also experienced a price increase.

In July, the price of the service that offers an ad-free YouTube experience, YouTube Music access, and offline video downloading increased from $11.99 to $13.99 per month.
