According to Indeed's 2024 Rising Jobs list, service jobs such as pet sitter, chauffeur, and bakery assistant are attracting a growing number of applicants in Singapore.

According to Indeed's analysis of job postings and click trends on the platform from November 2023 to November 2024, while workers are looking for service and support roles, employers are focusing on finding talent in high-demand fields such as artificial intelligence.

The report indicates that the job market is characterized by conflicting priorities, with employers focusing on innovation and job seekers drawn to practical and accessible roles.

The study reveals the increasing demand for hiring in Singapore and the popular job roles among job seekers.

As businesses compete in a more crowded digital marketplace, the need for sales and marketing managers is on the rise, according to Saumitra Chand, a career expert at Indeed, who shared this information with CNBC Make It.

Marketing professionals with expertise in video production, SEO, and campaign management are increasingly in demand as sectors such as technology, lifestyle, and e-commerce continue to grow, driving revenue and shaping brand identity.

In Singapore, employers and organizations are intensifying their search for individuals skilled in "innovative technologies" such as machine learning and civil engineering, which is fueled by Singapore's ongoing focus on innovation and infrastructure development, according to Chand.

Singapore has announced a budget of over $743 million to enhance its AI development and capabilities, following the lead of its then Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.

What job seekers are interested in

According to Indeed's data, the job postings with the most clicks from job seekers in Singapore are in service and support roles.

  1. Pet sitter +260%
  2. Chauffeur +184%
  3. Sales advisor +165%
  4. Bakery assistant +156%
  5. Zookeeper +149%
  6. Information technology intern +142%
  7. Senior graphic designer +140%
  8. Front desk receptionist +137%
  9. Managing director +124%

Chand stated that many people find roles such as pet sitting or chauffeuring appealing because they offer a sense of control, flexibility, and simplicity, which high-stakes jobs often lack. These positions allow individuals to escape the stress of long hours and tight deadlines.

Some job seekers may be driven to seek "immediate" and "accessible" roles due to Singapore's high cost of living, which could make it difficult to meet their financial needs without extensive training, according to him.

He stated that these roles align with a growing need for flexibility post-pandemic.
