Emily Levine has been working as a recruiter for over a decade.

Levine specializes in recruiting for "ultra-high net worth individuals, celebrities, athletes, and musicians," according to her. She has interviewed "thousands and thousands of individuals" and has observed many of them being hired.

If you're seeking employment, whether you're currently employed or not, it's important to remember that "things slow down at the end of December," as many people are traveling. This may result in recruiters taking longer to respond to your job applications.

Here are the steps Levine recommends to set yourself up for success in 2025.

Make sure your LinkedIn is up to date

This quiet moment in the hiring process presents a chance to revise your application documents.

Ensure that your LinkedIn profile is current and updated, and your resume is free of typos and reflects your most recent accomplishments, as advised by Levine.

Consider asking someone in your network to review your resume or LinkedIn profile and offer feedback.

During the application and interview process, you'll have limited time to focus on refining your material.

Make a list of companies you want to work for

Applying in 2025 requires having a clear action plan and writing things down, according to Levine.

What are 50 companies you'd be thrilled to interview with?

Can you identify trends in your desired workplace by examining your list? Do certain industries frequently appear on your list? Are you drawn to larger or smaller companies?

She believes it's crucial to have a clear direction in your job search, rather than simply applying anywhere. It's easier to find that direction when there's no hiring activity happening and you can take your time to carefully consider your options.

Make a list of people who could help

After compiling a list of companies, create a list of individuals who may be able to facilitate access to those companies.

Some of the people closest to you in your life may have worked at companies you're interested in or in the same industry.

If you encounter a job opening at a company where you have no connections, you could always reach out to anyone on your network list and ask, "Hey, do you happen to know anyone that works at this company?"

Inventory your LinkedIn connections and identify those who are somehow connected to one of the 50 companies you could reach out to for an intro in the new year.

"Making these connections through these lists is a beneficial exercise, as it helps you chart a course towards your desired job," says Levine.
