In 2024, Tripadvisor unveiled its Travelers' Choice Best of the Best Destination Awards, highlighting the world's top trending travel spots.

The ranking of destinations was established based on the number and quality of reviews from international tourists who posted on Tripadvisor between October 1, 2022, and September 30, 2023, regarding accommodations, restaurants, and activities.

Tokyo is the top trending destination for 2024, according to Tripadvisor.

After being one of the last countries to lift border restrictions following the Covid-19 pandemic, Japan is now attracting tourists eager to explore the country.

This year, Tokyo ranks among the top 24 global destinations among non-U.S. travelers, according to Airbnb data shared with CNBC.

The number of search queries for Japan on Airbnb has increased by more than three times in the first nine months of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, which is the largest increase among all countries, Airbnb announced.

Tokyo, Japan, is renowned as one of the world's most livable cities and houses the world's tallest tower, Tokyo Skytree.
