Despite working two marketing jobs and putting in long 80-hour workweeks, my true passion was creating art.

In April 2020, I started DomoINK as a side hustle. It has since grown into a successful art and home decor brand. I now earn $22,000 a month in passive income from online sales through my website, Etsy, Society6, and retailers like Target and Home Goods. Additionally, I have collaborated with major brands such as Disney, Samsung, Lowe's, and Dr. Martens.

On average, I spend two hours a day on DomoINK, while the rest of my time is devoted to my remote job as an interactive designer.

Here's a look at my typical week:

My schedule is very flexible

My full-time job schedule is usually from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. from Monday to Thursday and from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Fridays.

I can wake up at 8:00 a.m. and spend an hour answering emails about customer orders because I work from home and don't have to commute.

I switch up my tasks to avoid burnout

I dedicate time on Mondays to produce social media content for DomoINK, featuring my home decor to highlight my product collection.

On Tuesdays, I focus on completing detailed tasks such as editing footage. On Wednesdays, I usually create a new piece of art and record the entire process to share online.

I attempt to acquire a new skill on Thursdays, whether it's an art or business-related topic. I may watch a Youtube video on Adobe Illustrator or listen to a podcast on what makes a social post successful.

On weekends, I either go on a date with my fiancé, hang out with family and friends, or browse for eclectic decor inspiration online.

I spend time brainstorming what comes next

I frequently update my website on Fridays and brainstorm new product ideas such as puzzles, kitchenware, art prints, and apparel to offer my customers more options.

In the past year, I have undertaken more freelance projects. Among my most enjoyable assignments were working with Dr. Martens on their Santa Monica store and collaborating with NASCAR for Women's History Month to recognize female track presidents in their organization.

In 2024, my collaboration with hair accessory line Goody Tru will be sold at Walmart, and my artwork will be featured on stationary for Walmart's Black History Month collection.

I want my artwork to inspire other creatives

I strive to improve upon my previous work, but this pursuit can sometimes result in an artistic stagnation.

If I'm struggling to complete a drawing, I'll visit the Broad Museum or the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, both of which are among my favorites.

I aspire to have my artwork displayed in museums, as I witnessed a scarcity of Black artists' work while visiting galleries as a child. My ultimate aim is to inspire other young Black creatives to pursue their dreams.
