On Thursday morning, Elon Musk will attend an emergency court hearing in Philadelphia to address a request from the city's top prosecutor to halt the CEO and his political action committee from distributing $1 million prizes to registered voters in Pennsylvania, as ordered by a judge on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, attorneys for Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner disclosed in a court filing that his lawsuit against Musk and the America PAC had "sparked a flood of [social media] posts from Musk's followers," many of whom "made offensive attacks on Krasner."
On Monday, Krasner filed a suit, and Musk agreed with a user's claim that the district attorney knows the $1 million daily giveaway is legal but wants a leftist judge to stop it before Election Day.
Krasner's legal team requested increased security for the scheduled Friday morning hearing, citing a X account that posted the prosecutor's home address and added, "Krasner loves visitors. Mask up and leave all cellphones at home."
The judge in the case scheduled the hearing for Thursday morning, several hours after the filing.
The judge stated in the order on Wednesday that all parties must be present at the hearing.
The lawsuit filed by Krasner alleges that Musk and America PAC engaged in an illegal lottery and attempted to sway voters in the presidential race between Vice President Harris and former President Trump.
Musk and America PAC are backing Trump, the Republican nominee.
Musk did not immediately respond to a request for comment from CNBC.
