A surprising poll reveals Trump trailing behind Harris in Iowa.
  • A recent poll in Iowa revealed that Kamala Harris is leading Donald Trump by 3%, just three days before the election.
  • No serious analyst had predicted that the Democratic nominee would defeat Trump in Iowa, according to the Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa Poll's results, which came as a complete surprise to political observers.
  • J. Ann Selzer, who conducted the poll through her company Selzer & Co., stated that it's difficult for anyone to predict the outcome.

A recent poll shows that Kamala Harris is leading Donald Trump by 3% in Iowa among likely voters, with just three days left until Election Day.

Since September, Harris' lead has increased by 7 points, but her advantage is only within the poll's 3.4 percentage point margin of error.

No serious analyst had predicted that the Democratic nominee would defeat Trump in Iowa, according to the Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa Poll's results, which came as a complete surprise to political observers.

Since the presidential primaries concluded, neither candidate had campaigned in the state, which Trump has easily won in the past two presidential elections.

Pollster J. Ann Selzer, president of Selzer & Co, told the Des Moines Register that it's difficult for anyone to predict the outcome of the election.

"She has clearly leaped into a leading position."

The survey of 808 likely voters in Iowa from Monday to Thursday was conducted by Selzer & Co., a highly respected polling company whose findings are typically influential with political strategists.

Female voters, especially older and politically independent ones, contributed to Harris' lead in the poll.

According to Selzer, the two most influential factors determining these numbers are age and gender.

According to a poll, 3% of respondents backed independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who dropped out of his campaign to support Trump. Kennedy is still listed on Iowa's ballot.

In September, Trump was leading Harris by 4 percentage points, while in June, he led Biden by 18 percentage points.

In 2020, Trump won the state by 8 percentage points, while in 2016, he won by 9 points.

The Republican campaign labeled the poll as an "outlier" in a memo issued on Saturday night.

Earlier Saturday, a new Emerson College poll of likely Iowa voters was released, showing Trump leading Harris by 53% to 43%.

"According to Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling, women in Iowa support Trump by a five-point margin, while men support him by a significant 17-point margin. Additionally, Trump leads among independents with 53% support compared to 36% opposition."

The Emerson College poll released today is a more accurate reflection of the state of the Iowa electorate compared to the Des Moines Register poll, and it does so with greater transparency in their methodology.

This is a developing story, please check back for updates.
