A job interview, whether conducted in person or over the phone, can be a daunting experience. To make a good impression, it's important to appear polished and articulate your qualifications and suitability for the position, taking into account both your background and personality.

Stefanie Fackrell, an HR consultant who has experience working in recruiting at companies such as Google and Nvidia, says that it is very nerve-wracking.

She emphasizes that the key to success in an interview is to go in with confidence and relaxation. It's easy to let fear cloud your judgment, but she believes that this is where people can make mistakes and not give the employer the answers they need to make a decision.

Here's what she suggests to help you stay cool and calm.

'Take a breath'

Start by taking a moment to gather your thoughts before responding to interview questions. Avoid giving lengthy speeches and instead take a moment to understand what the interviewer is looking for.

Fackrell notes that candidates who are nervous often rush to answer questions, which can result in not fully processing the question and potentially forcing the interviewer to ask the same question again.

Fackrell advises taking a breath, being patient, and repeating the question to ensure understanding.

Do 'a pre-interview power song'

Before starting an interview, Fackrell recommends listening to music that will energize you.

She performs a pre-interview power song, choosing Outkast's "Bombs Over Baghdad."

What can put you in a good mood?

Fackrell emphasizes that the interviewers are rooting for you to succeed and invited you in for that reason. They want you to put your best foot forward, shine, and be confident during the interview.
