On Super Bowl Sunday, President Biden criticized snack companies for "shrinkflation" and this may become a common theme from the White House.
During the 48-second clip, posted to X, Biden was seated near typical snacks such as Oreos, Doritos, and Goldfish.
Biden remarked that while buying snacks for a game, you may have observed that sports drink bottles are smaller and a bag of chips contains fewer chips, yet they still charge the same price.
When consumer products become smaller in weight, size, or quantity, but their prices remain the same or increase, it is known as shrinkflation.
Biden stated, "I've had enough of the so-called 'shrinkflation.' It's a scam." He added, "I'm urging companies to put an end to this practice."
According to former presidential candidate Andrew Yang, the average consumer may agree with the message that they dislike it when certain events occur, but the real issue is whether this will lead to changes in corporate practices.
During a CNBC interview, Lael Brainard, the White House National Economic Council Director, attributed higher consumer prices to "shrinkflation" on Tuesday.
Yang, the co-chair of the Forward Party, stated that the Biden administration must continue to make their case to independents in order to win the November election, as they are currently underwater with this group. They will attempt to convince voters that they are on their side by using any means necessary.
