  • The Feasterville, Pennsylvania McDonald's where former President Trump visited on Sunday had its review posting temporarily disabled due to an unusual influx of reviews on Yelp.
  • Yelp often stops comments when a business gets increased media exposure, causing users to share their personal opinions without having a genuine customer interaction with the establishment.

The Feasterville, Pennsylvania McDonald's temporarily disabled new reviews after an influx of unusual comments about former President Trump's criminal convictions, demeanor, and customer service skills, resulting in mostly one-star reviews.

"The fries were excessively salty as if someone who had lost a significant election was shedding tears over them for an hour," stated a one-star review posted on Oct. 21.

The comments on the franchise owner's hosting of the Trump campaign were diverse, ranging from jokes to vulgarity, with some criticizing the owner for the decision.

In 47 years, I've never been to a better McDonald's. The older employee was very kind. Let's Make McDonald's Great Again! Reintroduce the Dollar Menu!

Yesterday, Yelp paused commenting after more than 145 reviews had already been posted.

"To ensure Yelp remains a valuable resource to the community, reviews must be based on a genuine, firsthand experience with the business, according to Noorie Malik, vice president of user operations at Yelp. If the activity decreases or stops, Yelp's moderators will clean up the page to reflect only firsthand consumer experiences."

In 2023, Yelp removed over 5,000 reviews from 112 U.S. business pages that received an Unusual Activity Alert for incidents related to politics or political figures, as a result of heightened media attention that led to people posting their personal views without legitimate customer interactions with the establishment.

"Derek Giacomantonio, a small business owner and franchisee, stated on Monday that his organization values welcoming everyone in the Feasterville community. He proudly opened his doors to all visitors, including those who have had a job at McDonald's. Giacomantonio accepted former President Trump's request to observe the transformative working experience that 1 in 8 Americans have had."

The Trump campaign did not respond to a request for comment from a spokesperson.
