UnitedHealth scraps investor day following reports of executive's shooting in Manhattan.
On Wednesday, the investor day was canceled following news that Brian Thompson, the CEO of its insurer unit, had been fatally shot in Manhattan.
Thompson led UnitedHealthcare, the largest private health insurer in the U.S.
The New York Police Department's Deputy Commissioner of Public Information's spokesperson confirmed that a 50-year-old male was shot in midtown Manhattan at 6:46 a.m. ET on Wednesday, but the identity of the man was not confirmed.
The investor day for UnitedHealth Group was held at the New York Hilton hotel in midtown. UnitedHealth Group did not respond to a request for comment.
