The league announced on Wednesday that it is adding its 15th team in Portland, which is the third new franchise as part of its most recent expansion.
The unnamed WNBA team, set to debut in 2026, will be owned and operated by RAJ Sports, a sports-focused investment firm, with Lisa Bhathal Merage serving as the controlling owner and governor.
"The WNBA's growth is being built upon, and bringing a team back to Portland is another crucial step forward, according to WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert in a release. Portland is a hub for the women's sports movement and has a dedicated community of basketball fans."
The NBA's Portland Trailblazers and the Portland team will both play at the Moda Center.
