- The film "Rust," starring Alec Baldwin, will have its world premiere at Camerimage Festival in November, three years after a shooting on set resulted in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
- Legal proceedings have ensnared the film and Baldwin since the shooting.
- A panel discussion on the fatal shooting, Hutchins' vision, safety on set, and how the production continued after her death will follow the screening.
The film "Rust," which was shot three years ago and resulted in a fatal accident, will have its world premiere at the Camerimage Festival in Poland next month.
Legal proceedings have ensnared the film and Baldwin since the shooting.
In April 2023, prosecutors dropped the first set of charges against Baldwin after receiving new information. In July, the second set of charges was dismissed as the judge found prosecutors improperly kept evidence from defense lawyers.
The Camerimage festival in Toruń, Poland, focuses on the art of cinematography. Following the screening of "Rust," a panel will discuss the fatal shooting, Hutchins' vision, safety on set, and how the production continued after her death, as announced by organizers.
The director Joel Souza, who was injured in the shooting, will be on the panel.
"Marek Zydowicz, Festival Director for Camerimage, stated in a release that our event was significant to Hutchins and she felt comfortable among international cinematographers who have been attending Camerimage for over three decades. During the festival, we paid tribute to Halyna's memory with a moment of silence and a panel of cinematographers discussed set safety. Now, we have the chance to remember her once again alongside cinematographers and film enthusiasts."
The 2024 festival takes place November 16-23.
