The Tyson-Paul match on Netflix was the most-streamed global sporting event ever, with 65 million live concurrent streams and 108 million total live viewers worldwide, according to a Netflix release. Additionally, the Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor fight before the Tyson-Paul match was the most-watched professional women's sporting event ever in the U.S., with 47 million viewers, the company said.
The event recorded several other victories, including the largest boxing crowd outside of Nevada.
According to Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions, both Tyson and Paul earned 10-figure paydays for their fight, while Serrano and Taylor received record pay for women's boxing.
Netflix's Christmas Day stream of National Football League games, marking its first live broadcast of the most-popular sport in the U.S., faced complaints from viewers about buffering issues. However, Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria stated that she is not worried about the company's ability to stream the NFL games.
Since 2022, Amazon has been streaming Thursday Night Football games, and NBCUniversal's Peacock streamed an NFL playoff game last season, making Netflix not the first streamer to venture into live sports.
