The Golden State Valkyries, a new WNBA expansion team in the Bay Area, have secured Chase as their jersey patch sponsor.
  • The Golden State Valkyries, the WNBA's next expansion team, have signed a multi-year deal with Chase to be their first jersey patch sponsor.
  • In 2025, the Valkyries, owned by Joe Lacob and Peter Guber, will begin playing in the WNBA in San Francisco.
  • The upcoming jersey patch deal, one of the largest in the WNBA, marks a significant milestone for the league and women's sports.

The WNBA's next expansion team, Golden State Valkyries, has secured a multiyear sponsorship deal with a founding partner.

The Golden State Warriors will have the Chase Freedom logo on their jersey patch when they begin play in 2025, after paying a $50 million expansion fee to secure the rights to a team in California's Bay Area in October 2023.

The seven-figure investment for the multi-year deal with the WNBA's Valkyries makes it one of the largest jersey patch deals in the league, according to industry sources. The Chase Freedom logo will be placed on the left shoulder of both the home and away jerseys. Neither the Valkyries nor Chase have disclosed the terms of the deal.

The Golden State Valkyries' president, Jess Smith, emphasized the importance of finding a sponsor who would improve the team's fan experience as they searched for a partner to support one of their key assets. The Warriors, who have been a long-term partner of the team, signed a 20-year deal for the naming rights to their arena in 2016, worth at least $300 million, making it the largest naming rights deal in the NBA. The Valkyries will also play their games at the Chase Center, located in San Francisco's Mission Bay neighborhood.

Smith stated that the image of Chase and the Valkyries on the billboard should convey a specific message.

JPMorgan Chase chief marketing officer, Carla Hassan, stated that the Bay Area is a "top priority market" for the financial services company, with over 5,000 employees and two million customers in the region, providing another chance to expand on the company's existing partnerships with the Warriors and the arena.

JPMorgan Chase has a diverse sports sponsorship portfolio, including naming rights deals with MLS's Inter Miami and MLB's Arizona Diamondbacks, as well as significant sponsorships with Madison Square Garden and the U.S. Open. Hassan stated that partnering with a WNBA team presented a "really good opportunity" for the company.
