is looking to be the first pharmacy in the metaverse.

The drugstore and health services company applied for a trademark to sell virtual goods, NFTs, and offer health care services, following in the footsteps of major retailers such as Walmart and Nike.

CVS is seeking to trademark its logo and establish an online store, offering downloadable virtual goods such as prescription drugs, health and wellness products, beauty, and personal care items.

The U.S. Patent Office website made public on Friday that CVS filed its application on Feb. 28.

CVS aims to expand its health services, including nutrition and wellness coaching, to virtual settings. The company's filing highlights its provision of non-emergency medical treatments, wellness programs, nutrition advisory services, health lifestyle and nutrition services, and counseling.

Since Facebook announced it was changing its name to Meta, there has been a surge of corporate metaverse filings, according to trademark attorney Josh Gerben.

Gerben, founding partner of Gerben Perrott law firm, stated that all Fortune 500 companies are filing trademarks with the intention of "How can we utilize this platform?" However, he noted that he had not seen anything in the past few months like the CVS filing as a virtual healthcare clinic.

The company is filing for a trademark to better serve consumers in the metaverse.

A CVS spokesperson stated to CNBC that the company is regularly exploring new and innovative ways to engage consumers through a digital-first, technology-forward approach. The spokesperson added that the company will continue to explore these and other options to improve the consumer experience and launch new consumer-centric services.

Metaverse trademarks have been filed by CVS, marking the first time a major drug chain has done so.
