The "50 Best Hotels in the World for 2024" have been revealed.
The hotel has 101 suites and villas, views over Bangkok's Chao Phraya river, and costs from $600 per night.
The "50 Best" list ranked Capella Bangkok as the world's top hotel in 2024.
The collective view of 600 anonymous global voters, consisting of travel journalists, hoteliers, and seasoned travel specialists, determined the results of "The World's 50 Best Hotels," which were announced Tuesday in London's historic Guildhall.
The hotel moved up 10 spots on the 2023 list, from No. 11 to No. 2. It features five dining options, including a Michelin-starred restaurant by chef Mauro Colagreco, a spa sanctuary called Auriga, and seven riverside villas with private plunge pools.
After the awards ceremony, Capella's General Manager John Blanco spoke to CNBC Travel, expressing his surprise and gratitude for the recognition. "We're numb! This is so unexpected and flattering. As a small brand, it's a huge accomplishment for our team. I'm sure everyone back home is celebrating with us."
Josephine Ping, the hotel's director of sales and marketing, stated: "We aim to provide guests with an authentic Thai experience. Our location is unique, local, and offers a sense of place on the 'River of Kings.' It's a reward for everyone's hard work."
In 2023, Passalacqua in Italy's Lake Como was awarded bragging rights in the inaugural hotel awards, but slipped one place to No. 2 in this year's list.
The 50 Best organization has released hotel rankings for the second time. It has been producing rankings in the culinary world for many years, including "The World's 50 Best Restaurants" since 2002 and "The World's 50 Best Bars" since 2009.

Other awards
The '50 Best' organization revealed individual awards for exceptional hotels in specific categories.
Raffles London at the OWO received the Highest New Entry Award, while Atlantis The Royal in Dubai claimed the Highest Climber Award, moving up 35 positions from No. 44 to No. 9.
The Best New Hotel and the One to Watch were named in the two-year voting window. Bulgari Tokyo (No. 22) was the highest-ranked hotel to open and was named "Best New Hotel," while The Peninsula Istanbul, which only opened last year, was named the "One to Watch" for showing the greatest potential to break into the top 50 list in the future.
In The Maldives, Soneva Fushi received the Best Beach Hotel Award, while Morocco's Royal Mansour was honored with the Art of Hospitality Award.
Passalacqua in Lake Como won the Best Boutique Hotel Award, while Maroma Riviera Maya in Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula received the Eco Hotel Award for their dedication to both people and the environment.
Aman received the Most Admired Hotel Group Award, while Rosewood Hotel Group CEO Sonia Cheng was honored with the Icon Award for her positive impact on the hotel industry.
The voting system
In the past two years, the seven hotels that voters enjoyed the most, in order of preference, were named by voters divided across nine regions worldwide.
Emma Sleight, head of content for The World's 50 Best Hotels, stated to CNBC that members of the 50 Best organization do not vote and do not control the composition of the list. Instead, it is up to each individual voter to decide what makes any individual hotel among their 'best' experiences.
A voter can nominate any hotel they have stayed in, as long as they have spent at least one night there. However, the rules prohibit voters from nominating more than three properties within the same hotel group.
"According to Sleight, a hotel does not need to stock a specific product, meet a certain price point, or have won any other accolades to be eligible for inclusion in the list. New or old hotels can both be included, as demonstrated by last year's list, which featured Atlantis The Royal in Dubai and Claridge's, which has been open since the 1800s."
