The 2024 NHL Team Valuations: A Ranking of the 32 Franchises
The NHL is gaining more recognition for its team values.
According to CNBC's Official 2024 NHL Valuations, the average NHL team is valued at $1.92 billion, and recent transactions have revenue multiples comparable to those seen in Major League Baseball.
What accounts for the league's ascension?
The league's 32 teams are likely to be profitable due to steady revenue growth, a hard salary cap, and a leaguewide revenue-sharing system.
In the 2023-24 season, the NHL's hockey-related revenue increased by 8.6% to $6.3 billion, while the league also achieved record national sponsorship revenue of $250 million and record regular-season gate receipt revenue of $2.4 billion, according to the league.
The growth in revenue and media deals is contributing to a better financial performance for professional hockey teams. The average NHL team generated an EBITDA of $45 million on revenue of $223 million during the 2023-24 season, according to CNBC calculations.
