Spirit Halloween to launch 10 new 'Spirit Christmas' stores for holiday shoppers.
  • A spokesperson confirmed with CNBC that Spirit Halloween will open locations as "Spirit Christmas" during the holiday season.
  • Along with a real-life Santa and a life-sized gingerbread village, each store will offer a diverse range of holiday decorations and presents.
  • The flagship store of the company in May's Landing, NJ, will open on October 18, while the other nine locations will open in early November.

Some Spirit Halloween locations will be busy for longer than usual this year.

A spokesperson confirmed with CNBC that Spirit Halloween will have 10 stores open throughout the holiday season under the name "Spirit Christmas."

The company is changing its typical approach of renting vacant stores for Halloween retailers. Instead, 10 stores in the Northeast will remain open until the end of the year. The flagship store in Mays Landing, N.J., will open on Oct. 18, while the other nine locations will open in early November. Not all of these stores will be converted from existing Spirit Halloween locations.

"A spokesperson for Spirit Halloween stated that Spirit Christmas is a new idea for them, and they hope it will connect with their customers. Their objective is to create a festive shopping experience that embodies the holiday season, similar to how they do for Halloween."

While all stores will feature holiday inflatables and decor, they will not all offer the same experiences. The new stores will replace fake skulls and costumes with wrapping paper and stockings, but they will also provide unique experiences such as photographs with a real-life Santa and letter writing to the North Pole.

The first 10 locations will serve as a trial to determine if customers will remain committed throughout the holiday season.

The holiday sales market is profitable, but not a guaranteed success for businesses. According to the National Retail Federation, spending increased by 3.8% annually to reach $964.4 billion in 2023.

Deloitte predicts that holiday retail sales will increase by 2.3% to 3.3% in 2024, but anticipates a larger increase of 7% to 9% for e-commerce. However, the Spirit Christmas test stores will not support this growth. Meanwhile, Amazon is preparing for the holiday season by planning to hire 250,000 workers, the same number as last year.

The presidential election in November and the tumultuous hurricane season could impact holiday spending.
