This week, Patek Philippe, the renowned Swiss watch maker, unveiled its first new collection in 25 years, named the Cubitus line.
Despite the recent slump in secondhand prices of luxury time pieces, younger investors and collectors have been buying up luxury watches during the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the new collection comes at a time when luxury watch prices have largely stabilized, fueled by strong demand.
Patek Philippe's new lineup includes three models, two in steel casings and one in platinum, which aims to redefine the "elegant sporty" style. The two steel models, one with a two-toned rose gold finish and the other in pure steel, embody the line's sporty vibe and feature vibrant dials.
The third model stands out with a platinum casing and unique face design featuring a large-format date and a dial tracking the moon phase and day of the week.
Patek Philippe has introduced new technologies in its watches, including an ultrathin self-winding mini rotor and an instantaneous-jump mechanism that ensures the displays align within 18 milliseconds. The brand has filed six patent applications for these new innovations.
Patek Philippe's new collection features new cufflinks that complement the white-gold frame of the watches, reflecting the shape of the case.
Patek Philippe, established in 1839, is frequently referred to as one of "The Holy Trinity" in watchmaking, alongside Audemars Piguet and Vacheron Constantin.
Patek Philippe's last new collection before the Cubitus line was the Twenty~4 design, which was released in 1999 and aimed at the young, active, and modern woman.
