CNBC has learned that DETROIT is laying off over 1,000 salaried employees worldwide in its software and services division after conducting a review to optimize its operations.
The layoffs, including approximately 600 jobs at GM's tech campus near Detroit, occurred less than six months after the leadership changes, including the departure of former Apple executive Mike Abbott due to health reasons.
"To achieve excellence and speed in building GM's future, we must make bold choices, simplify, and prioritize investments with the greatest impact. As a result, we are reducing certain teams within the Software and Services organization. We thank those who helped establish a strong foundation that positions GM for success in the future."
More than 1,000 salaried employees, including 600 in Warren, Michigan, will be laid off by GM, although the company declined to reveal the exact number of layoffs.
