DIA, Colorado's airport, opened in 1995 and was initially designed to handle 50 million passengers annually. However, it is now estimated that the airport will see more than 100 million passengers per year by 2027.
In 2019, Denver was the 21st busiest airport worldwide, but by 2023, it had climbed to the sixth position.
Denver International Airport (DIA) reports that United Airlines is its busiest hub, with a 30.7% market share, followed by Frontier Airlines at 9.7% and Southwest Airlines at 46.7%. DIA has recently invested nearly $1 billion in Denver to expand its operations, including adding more gates, flights, and destinations, and opening the largest lounge in its network.
Jonna McGrath, vice president of Denver Airport operations for United Airlines, stated that approximately 60% of their customers are connecting from other locations, while 40% are local Denver residents. She added that Denver is a fast-growing city and their goal is to increase the number of flights to about 650 per day before 2030.
