  • Since February, the Washington, D.C., NFL team has been without a naming rights partner, as FedEx ended its deal with the Commanders two years early.
  • In either Washington, D.C., or Virginia, the Commanders are considering constructing a new stadium.

The home of the Washington Commanders just got a new name.

According to a source, the team's stadium will be renamed Northwest Stadium as part of a new agreement with Northwest Federal Credit Union, which runs through the 2030-2031 season. The deal is valued at an average annual amount in the low $8 million range.

Since February, the Washington, D.C., NFL team has been without a naming rights partner, as the shipping giant ended its deal with the Commanders two years early. The football team's deal with the shipping giant ran from 1999 through the 2025 season.

Washington Commanders Managing Partner Josh Harris stated, "We are thrilled to have you all join us as we strive to make the Commanders an elite franchise that consistently contends for championships. We are eager to share this journey with our team and fans at Northwest Stadium and create unforgettable experiences together both on and off the field."

The new agreement with NWFCU complements an existing stadium sponsorship deal worth approximately $2 million annually, which did not include naming rights.

Northwest Federal Credit Union has expanded its partnership with the Washington Commanders, which now includes branding across the stadium and serving as the team's jersey patch partner for practices. Additionally, Commanders fans who are members of Northwest Federal Credit Union will receive discounts on tickets and merchandise.

Last year Northwest became the Commanders' official credit union partner.

The Commanders are considering building a new stadium in either Washington, D.C., or Virginia. If the team decides to move into a new stadium before the 2030-2031 season ends, they will have the option to seek a new naming rights partner for the stadium under the new agreement. However, NCU does not have the rights to the new stadium or the right of first refusal for those rights, a person familiar with the situation said.

The Los Angeles Rams currently have the most valuable stadium naming rights deal in the NFL, worth $625 million over 20 years. SoFi Stadium, where the Rams and Chargers play, is owned by Rams owner Stan Kroenke, who collects 85% of stadium sponsorship revenue.
