The company announced on Wednesday that it will live stream a hot dog eating competition between rival champions Joey "Jaws" Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi in an event titled "Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef."
Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest will see Chestnut, the world record holder for eating 76 hot dogs in 10 minutes and a 16-time champion, face off against his "fiercest rival," six-time winner Kobayashi, for the first time since Chestnut defeated Kobayashi in 2009, the company announced in a press release.
Chestnut announced in a press release that he is excited for the upcoming live showdown on Netflix, which will be the latest chapter in the long-awaited rivalry between him and his opponent.
In a Netflix documentary, Kobayashi announced his retirement from competitive eating due to health issues.
"I will retire only after I defeat Joey in our long-standing rivalry," said Kobayashi. "Competing against him on Netflix allows fans worldwide to witness my victory."
Major League Eating disqualified Chestnut from the annual Fourth of July hot dog eating contest in Coney Island because he used Impossible Foods' plant-based hot dog instead of the traditional beef hot dog.
Netflix's latest venture into live sports programming includes a $5 billion 10-year deal to stream Raw, WWE's weekly flagship program, starting in 2025 and the upcoming Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson boxing match in November, which is generating buzz as Tyson's first matchup in nearly 20 years.
The company will live stream Christmas Day National Football League games for the next three years.
