Mattress Mack, a furniture tycoon, wagers a record-breaking $4.5 million on the Bengals winning the Super Bowl.
- A Texas businessman seems to have broken the U.S. record for a mobile sports bet with his $4.5 million bet that the Cincinnati Bengals will win the Super Bowl.
- Mattress Mack, known as Jim McIngvale, has gained a national following for his large sports bets.
- At his furniture store, Mack employs sports bets to offset the risks associated with his sports-themed promotions.
On Thursday, Mattress Mack, also known as Jim McIngvale, drove 100 miles from Houston to Louisiana to place what is believed to be the largest mobile sports wager in U.S. history.
The Cincinnati Bengals won Super Bowl LVI with a $4.53 million bet from a furniture store mogul.
In order to legally place the bet, McIngvale had to travel to Louisiana, where mobile sports betting became available on January 28. He then drove to a nearby convenience store to make the wager through the Sportsbook app.
In an interview, he stated, "If you could observe me there, constantly glued to my phone for two hours, you'd realize it wasn't all that glamorous."
Mattress Mack is renowned for placing extravagant sports wagers to mitigate the effects of his sports-themed marketing campaigns at his furniture store. Currently, the promotion entails a full refund for any mattress or reclining living room furniture purchase if the Bengals triumph in the Super Bowl.
If the Bengals defeat the Los Angeles Rams, McIngvale will earn $7.7 million, which will cover the cost of refunds. However, if the Bengals lose, he will lose $4.5 million and may face consequences with his wife. Despite this, he believes that the game will increase brand recognition and excitement among his customers.
Caesars Sportsbook accepted a large wager from him, while other sportsbooks rejected or offered unfavorable odds.
Caesars Sportsbook stated to CNBC that they are not afraid to take in a $4.5 million bet on the Super Bowl and are excited to accept the largest bets on the biggest events.
The largest known bet on the Super Bowl was a $7.9 million wager at -900 odds in 2002.
Mack attempted to place a $4.5 million bet but was unable to do so. As a result, he made several smaller bets to reach that amount. Nevertheless, Caesars Sportsbook's system can handle a single bet of that size.
