Los Angeles aims to raise the Olympic Games to new heights in 2028 following Paris's successful hosting.
- Stakeholders at CNBC x Boardroom's Game Plan stated that the Los Angeles 2028 Games aim to improve the city after the Olympics depart.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass expressed her anxiety about the preparations needed for the 2028 Games, but she believes that, like the last time Los Angeles hosted the Olympics in 1984, the city will improve and benefit from hosting the Games.
The city is taking steps to eliminate street homelessness, such as constructing over 18,000 new units for the homeless population, as stated by Bass.
Bass stated that there will be talks with Los Angeles companies about adjusting work schedules for remote employees during peak traffic hours, as well as exploring options for nighttime truck deliveries, similar to what occurred during the 1984 Games.
Bass suggested that we could arrange the region in a manner that would reduce and control traffic.
Casey Wasserman, the LA 2028 President, attended the Paris Games and shared with Ross Sorkin that the event reminded people of the reasons they love the Olympics. He also stated that the organizers will use the Paris Games as a foundation to enhance the Los Angeles Games.
For the first time in Olympic history, Los Angeles faces challenges in utilizing all its landmarks like Paris did with the Eiffel Tower. Wasserman revealed that Los Angeles got a glimpse of this during the Olympic Torch handover ceremony when Tom Cruise scaled the Hollywood Sign and the Olympic Rings replaced the "OO"'s in the sign, which was done with CGI.
"Wasserman stated that the conversation about modifying the Hollywood Sign for the Olympics would be lengthy and intricate, but it would be a remarkable chance if it were feasible."
The Los Angeles 2028 board of directors, including actress Jessica Alba, stated that the Games will serve as a "global platform to showcase the city's diverse culture," encompassing aspects such as Hollywood, fashion, and food.
"During the Olympics, Alba stated that LA should be a prominent character."
NBCUniversal, the parent company of CNBC, owns NBC Sports and NBC Olympics. NBC Olympics holds the U.S. broadcast rights to all Summer and Winter Games through 2032.
