Scott Boras: $765M Juan Soto deal is really about 'good business decisions'

Scott Boras, a renowned Major League Baseball super agent, recently secured the largest contract of his career.

On Thursday, the New York Mets signed Juan Soto to a 15-year contract worth $765 million, breaking the record for the largest deal in professional sports history.

In the MLB, Soto will become the first player to earn more than $50 million in a single season.

"Boras stated on CNBC's "Power Lunch" that half of the league was interested in participating in this. He explained that many teams were seeking the rare value because it was ultimately good business to acquire it."

Soto and his team faced a tough choice in selecting the best fit, with Boras taking into account his recent performance at Citi Field, where the Mets play.

"Boras stated that Juan Soto's performance levels in Citi Field are well-known to him. He plays at his highest level of performance, and players consider execution. Boras emphasized that one must take into account all these factors."

In 35 games at Citi Field, Soto hit 12 home runs, had 26 RBIs, and had an on-base percentage of .466 and a .709 slugging percentage.

On August 12, 2020, at Citi Field, he hit his longest homerun of his career, which measured 466 feet.

The 26-year-old player, Boras, revealed that it wasn't solely about the money for him.

"Boras stated that when you're an athlete, you consider a wide range of things, but your primary focus is on your routine and performance. He emphasized that there are many more aspects to consider beyond just economics."

At his first press conference, Soto stated that the Mets had made him feel like part of their family.

Soto was impressed by how much love they showed him on the standpoint of what they have and how they plan to make it comfortable for everyone.
