Goldman Sachs analysts predict that Hurricane Milton's projected park closures and disruptions could negatively impact 's earnings.
Disney's Parks and Experiences segment is projected to experience a reduction in earnings before interest and taxes of approximately $150 million to $200 million in the current 2025 fiscal first quarter due to the hurricane, which is expected to make landfall in central Florida on Wednesday. This estimate from Goldman Sachs exceeds the impact of Hurricane Irma in 2017, which reduced earnings by about $100 million after the parks were closed for two days and some cruise ships were disrupted, according to the firm.
Disney's fiscal 2025 earnings per share estimate was reduced from $5.22 to $5.14 by Goldman Sachs. The firm also projected a decline of 6% in first-quarter domestic attendance instead of the earlier estimate of a 2% decline. However, Disney's recently ended fourth quarter estimates remained largely unchanged, with an outlook for earnings per share of $1.16 and a Parks and Experiences segment operating income of $3.8 billion.
On Tuesday morning, the storm was 545 miles southwest of Tampa, moving at 12 mph with sustained winds of 145 mph. It was classified as a Category 4 hurricane and could potentially hit the Florida coast as a Category 3.
Disney World is in the path of a hurricane that hasn't hit the Tampa area directly since 1921. The storm is projected to make landfall around Tampa and then head toward Orlando, decreasing in intensity as it goes.
Disney has not yet made any announcements regarding potential closures. Disney spokespeople did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment on the new earnings estimates.
