The "Spirit of America" special edition of the $325,000 Mustang GTD was unveiled by on Thursday, paying homage to historical jet-propelled cars with the same name.
The vehicle has red and blue stripes down its center, matching the overalls worn by Craig Breedlove when he broke both the 500 mph and 600 mph barriers in the 1960s.
The special-edition vehicle, based on Ford's current GTD, was unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show, but Ford declined to disclose its pricing.
The Mustang GTD boasts a 5.2-liter V8 engine with a supercharger that generates 815 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful Mustang ever produced. Its top speed is 202 mph.
Ford aims to elevate the Mustang nameplate in the sports car and racing spheres through the implementation of the GTD.
During the 2021 application window, over 7,500 applications were submitted for the 2025 and 2026 Mustang GTD models, according to Ford.
