Equinox is introducing a $40,000-year gym membership that focuses on enhancing overall wellness and lifespan.

Equinox has partnered with Function Health to launch "Optimize by Equinox," a comprehensive health program that integrates personal training, nutrition plans, sleep coaching, and massage therapy. This program, unveiled on Monday, is part of the burgeoning market for longevity and wellness, where the fields of medicine, biotech, fitness, and nutrition are converging in an effort to mitigate the effects of aging.

"Jonathan Swerdlin, co-founder of Function Health, stated that the paradigm shift in living with vitality and avoiding suffering is revolutionary. He explained that it addresses both the visible and invisible aspects of health, including the abs and glutes that can be seen in the mirror and the internal aspects that cannot be seen."

The Optimize program includes two rounds of tests annually, with Function Health assessing 100 biomarkers and Equinox focusing on fitness metrics such as VO2 max, strength, and movement range.

The Equinox concierge coordinates all the tests and information to create a customized health and fitness plan for each member, who will have a team consisting of a fitness trainer, nutrition coach, sleep coach, and massage therapist.

Equinox's Optimize membership offers three 60-minute training sessions per week with a top-level trainer, two half-hour sessions a month with a nutrition coach, two half-hour sessions a month with a sleep coach, and one massage therapy session per month. This program totals 16 hours of coaching and training per month.

Equinox's expansion into the health and wellness business, a booming market among the affluent, will be tested by the move.

The company recently raised $1.8 billion in funding to refinance $1.2 billion of its existing debt. Additionally, the company reported that its April performance was its second-best on record.

Equinox plans to launch new clubs in Philadelphia and Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles, this year, increasing its pipeline total to 27. The company currently has 107 global locations, as per its website.

Equinox has always emphasized the importance of "the four pillars" of longevity, which include movement, regeneration, nutrition, and community.

She remarked, "Sometimes I jest that our profession has always been about longevity, and now science is finally catching up."

The new program will cost $3,000 a month for a minimum of six months, with an additional fee of $40,000 or more for an Equinox gym membership, bringing the total cost for the year.

Klim described it as a luxury service that combines data with coaching, with a focus on the human experience.

The Optimize program will launch in New York City and Highland Park, Texas in May, with plans to expand to other states in the future. Members will have access to Equinox's exclusive "E Clubs," which offer a more personalized and exclusive gym experience with higher membership fees.

Function Health's mission is to help people live "100 healthy years." The company's own program costs $499 for the tests of 100 biomarkers. Despite this, demand is so strong that it has a waitlist of more than 200,000 people. Function wants to partner with Equinox, the leader in the category, because its personalized fitness and health programs make Function's data most useful when applied.

"Swerdlin stated that living 100 healthy years is not solely determined by medical professionals. Instead, it is influenced by daily choices and exercise routines. Equinox aids in completing this cycle."
