An analysis by Cars.com revealed that six out of the seven car brands that advertised during the Super Bowl showcased electric vehicles.

Several brands, including Polestar, showcased their electric vehicles (EVs) during the event. Polestar featured its Polestar 2, while the corporate brand advertised several EVs. Other brands promoting electric cars included Tesla, GM's Chevy, Nissan, and Ford.

Electric vehicles account for just 9% of global passenger car sales, despite the significant increase in ad dollars spent on the car industry, according to a new study by market research company Canalys.

In 2021, the number of EVs sold worldwide reached 6.5 million, which is a 109% increase from the previous year, according to Canalys.

In 2021, the global passenger car market experienced a 4% increase, according to Canalys.

Although the electric vehicle market is expanding at a rate of more than 25 times the overall car market, it remains a minor component of the total market.

In 2021, 3.2 million EVs were sold in mainland China and 2.3 million EVs were sold in Europe, resulting in a total of 6.5 million EVs sold worldwide.

According to Ashwin Amberkar, an analyst at Canalys, in several European countries, EVs accounted for more than a quarter of new cars sold. However, customers should be prepared to wait for up to a year to receive a new EV, as a nine to 12 month wait time is common.

In contrast to other countries, the US market for EVs is relatively small, with only 535,000 cars, which is approximately 4% of new cars sold in the US, being electric.

Almost 60% of EV sales in the US belong to Elon Musk's car company.

Since the launch of Model 3 in 2018, Tesla's EV sales in the US have surpassed those of its competitors, and the company even outsells many premium car brands in the overall market, according to Chris Jones, vice president and chief analyst at Canalys.

Tesla has a slight edge over the rest of the EV market globally, with 14% of global EV sales being Tesla, and Volkswagen Group following closely behind with a 12% global EV market share.
