Boeing will plead guilty to a criminal fraud charge related to the 737 Max crashes, following a near-catastrophe in January that led the Justice Department to reevaluate a 2021 settlement that shielded the company from prosecution.

A federal judge must approve the plea deal outlined in a Sunday filing, which calls for Boeing to pay a $243.6 million fine, the same amount it paid in a 2021 settlement.

Boeing has reached an agreement in principle with the Justice Department on resolution terms, pending the finalization and approval of specific details.
