Despite spending years trying to recover from the two fatal 737 Max 8 crashes in 2018 and 2019, Boeing has faced ongoing issues with production flaws and setbacks, including a door plug flying off a 737 Max 9 plane in mid-air after it took off in early January.

Boeing's stock has fallen around 30% this year.

Boeing, once known for its safety, is losing market share to rival, which has delivered more planes and received more orders for five consecutive years.

Some airlines are scaling back growth plans due to delays in production.

Boeing, under pressure, has announced talks to buy back fuselage maker Spirit AeroSystems, which it spun off in 2005 in an attempt to correct manufacturing flaws and get production back on track.

One of the largest aerostructure companies globally, it produces components for both commercial and military aircraft, including fuselages and wing elements, among other parts.

"AeroDynamic Advisory's managing director, Kevin Michaels, stated that Boeing is their largest customer and Spirit provides 100% of the fuselages for the world's second-most popular aircraft, the 737."

Some Boeing fuselages have been affected by manufacturing flaws that originated at the Spirit AeroSystems factory over the past few years.

Airbus and other plane manufacturers also receive parts from Spirit, making the deal more intricate.
