Aristocrat Gaming CEO: Competition is good for the industry

Hector Fernandez, CEO of Aristocrat Gaming, stated to CNBC that the company's future relies on digital opportunities and safeguarding its intellectual property.

Fernandez stated that he welcomes competition but emphasized the importance of aggressively defending the intellectual property (IP) created by the company.

Light & Wonder was sued by Global Gamemaker in federal court for copyright infringement, with the allegation that its "Dragon Train" game was too similar to Global Gamemaker's Dragon Link games.

The District Court of Nevada granted a preliminary injunction against Light & Wonder in late May, and the company has since dismissed one of the game's designers.

Light & Wonder has complied with the court's order and plans to modify Dragon Train for future re-launch, as stated by CNBC.

Casino operators' shares have underperformed those of casino gamemakers this year. Light & Wonder shares were up 37% year-to-date until the September court decision. They are still up 17% this year.

The stock price of Aristocrat, listed in Australia, has increased by 41% in 2021.

Fernandez stated to CNBC that the company is concentrating on digital prospects as part of its overall strategy. Despite being licensed in only six states in the US, iGaming's gross gaming revenue is expanding at almost the same rate as sports betting, according to the American Gaming Association.

At a September investor day, FanDuel, the country's leading iGaming company, revealed that its most popular online games are often branded versions of games that are commonly played at physical casinos.

CNBC reported that Fernandez's main focus is on developing casino games that are enjoyable for players and can convince customers of their effectiveness on the gaming floor.
