The CEO of the automaker, Carlos Tavares, has resigned due to "different views" with the board of directors, according to a statement released on Sunday.
Tavares, the world's fourth-largest carmaker, resigned on Sunday and his departure is effective immediately.
Stellantis is currently in the process of appointing a new CEO and expects to conclude the search during the first half of next year. In the meantime, the company has established an interim executive committee led by chairman John Elkann.
Stellantis' success has been due to a perfect alignment between its reference shareholders, the Board, and the CEO. However, recent differences in views have led to the Board and CEO making a decision today, as stated by Henri de Castries, Stellantis' senior independent director.
Tavares resigned from his position less than two months after the company announced his retirement at the end of his contract in early 2026. Stellantis stated that it planned to appoint a replacement by the fourth quarter of next year.
Since the 2021 merger between Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and PSA Groupe, Tavares has been the leader of Stellantis, having previously served as board chair since 2014.
