After Trump's win, the number of Americans interested in moving abroad increases significantly.
Following the presidential race, searches related to moving abroad increased among Americans who were disappointed with the election outcome.
Following the news that Donald Trump would be returning to the White House, searches related to "leaving the country" and "how to move to …" increased on Google Trends.
The interest in "how to move to Canada" was highest among Democratic strongholds, including Vermont, Maine, Oregon, and Washington, on November 6th, according to Google Trends.
In two crucial swing states, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, as well as Oregon, Minnesota, and Indiana, those searching for "can I move to another country" were the highest.
Earlier this month, a survey revealed that 21% of Americans would consider relocating overseas if their preferred presidential candidate did not win the election.
According to a survey conducted by Casino.org, which offers news, information, and research to gamers, the sentiment appeared to be more rooted in frustration than actual intention.
Nearly 60% of those surveyed said they were "very unlikely" to relocate, while only 2.6% indicated they were "very likely" to move.
Where Americans want to move
Following a disappointing Presidential election result, one in five Americans selected Canada as their preferred destination.
Japan, currently the favorite destination for Asian tourism, came in third place, while the United Kingdom was ranked second.
Despite being one of the most ethnically homogeneous and advanced economies globally, the East Asian nation is now opening its doors to foreigners due to demographic shifts caused by an aging population and shrinking workforce.
This year, Japan introduced a "Digital Nomad" visa that enables eligible foreigners to remain in the country for a maximum of six months. The program is accessible to individuals who work for non-Japanese firms and earn at least 10 million Japanese yen annually ($65,330).

Reasons for moving abroad
According to the report, the top reason among those who expressed interest in relocating abroad was "culture," followed by job opportunities and healthcare.
The survey revealed that about 3% of respondents cited taxes and education as reasons to move overseas after their preferred candidate lost the election.
Over 4,000 Americans aged 18-65 were surveyed about their feelings regarding moving abroad after the 2024 U.S. Presidential election outcome.
Nearly two-thirds of Americans believe the country is on the "wrong track," according to an NBC News national poll conducted in September 2024, down from 73% who held the same view in January 2024.
