Hundreds of traffic accidents are occurring due to ice-glazed roads resulting from freezing rain and drizzle, which is causing disruptions in travel from Central Texas to the Great Lakes.

On Wednesday, hundreds of flights were canceled at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport due to freezing rain that iced parts of Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Arkansas, which were preparing for an ice storm.

Through Friday morning, more than half an inch of ice could accumulate in parts of the Ozarks, while a quarter- to a half-inch was expected in North Texas through Thursday, the National Weather Service stated.

Over 2,000 Thursday flights had been canceled by Wednesday night, as per FlightAware.com. Approximately half of these cancellations occurred at the Dallas-Fort Worth airport, where temperatures were predicted to reach above freezing briefly in the late afternoon.

According to FlightAware, by Wednesday night, American Airlines had canceled 21% of its Thursday flights at DFW Airport, which is the largest in the network.

Upstate New York and New England are expected to receive heavy snow later this week, with more than 8 inches (20 centimeters) possible through Saturday morning.

On Wednesday, the Northeast experienced a brief respite from winter as temperatures rose into the 60s, only to be expected to drop again shortly.

The mild weather enticed individuals to venture outside, yet it posed a challenge for ski resorts and winter activities.

Ethan Austin, spokesperson for the Sugarloaf ski area in Maine, expressed that it wasn't ideal to see what you want during the busiest week of the year, but he was thrilled to learn that snow was forecasted.

In less than a week, there were two instances of a temperature swing of over 40 degrees in 24 hours.
