The new and upcoming pro women's basketball league has signed an exclusive, multiyear media rights deal to air its games on TNT, truTV, and streaming platform Max. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The three-on-three league was founded this year by WNBA stars Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier, as the popularity of women's sports, particularly basketball, continues to grow.

The WNBA experienced a surge in attendance and viewership this season due to rookies Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. This momentum has continued into the postseason, with both Collier and Stewart featuring in the Finals. As a result, the WNBA's season will expand to 44 games next year, and the Final series will be extended to seven games.

The new format of Unrivaled will provide athletes with another option to play basketball in the U.S. during the offseason, rather than having to play overseas. Additionally, players will receive equity in the new league and have access to the highest average salary in women's pro sports league history.

The new league will have Reese, along with other top WNBA players, including Stewart and Collier.

Starting from January 17th, over 45 primetime regular season matchups will be aired across TNT Sports' platforms. The games will be shown three nights a week, with two games on TNT on Mondays and Fridays, and additional broadcasts on truTV on Saturdays, as per the release.

Other TNT platforms such as Bleacher Report and House of Highlights will also feature unrivaled highlights and other content.

Unlike other sports leagues, Unrivaled's games will be exclusively broadcast on TNT Sports.

"Consistency is crucial for our success, as Alex Bazzell, Unrivaled president, emphasized. By establishing a consistent home, the fans will know where to find us. Additionally, partnering with someone who shares our vision and wants to promote our brand outside of games can greatly benefit us, as Bleacher Report and House of Highlights are valuable assets for us."

The WNBA's media rights deal is valued at $2.2 billion for 11 seasons, according to CNBC.

The NBA's 11-year, $77 billion media rights deal with Amazon, Disney's ESPN, and Comcast's NBCUniversal has ended its 40-year relationship with Warner Bros. Discovery's Turner Sports, prompting the latter to sue the NBA to maintain its rights.

If Turner Sports loses its lawsuit, it can still keep basketball on its air through a media rights deal with Unrivaled.

Mediapro North America will collaborate with Unrivaled and TNT Sports for audio and TV production.

Charles Barkley, a renowned broadcaster and NBA Hall of Famer, has stated that he would remain with TNT Sports even if the company loses its NBA media rights in the future. Barkley is a key member of TNT Sports' successful "Inside the NBA" show.

Turner and Unrivaled have yet to determine the specific talent for their pregame, postgame, and other studio content, as TNT Sports will develop it.

The sports network TNT has recently expanded its lineup, featuring Major League Baseball, National Hockey League, college football playoff games, and The French Open, among other sports.

Star investor lineup

TNT Sports has joined the new league's hot lineup of investors.

In the Wednesday announcement, Unrivaled stated that it guarantees "continued stability and financial safety for all players and stakeholders until at least 2028."

Earlier this year, Unrivaled announced a seed fund round and its investors included media executives such as former ESPN President John Skipper, ex-Turner President David Levy, and former Warner Bros. CEO Ann Sarnoff. The investors also included athletes like former NBA All-Star Carmelo Anthony and others who invested through the venture capital firm led by Alex Morgan, the recently retired star and captain of the U.S women's national soccer team.

Skipper and Levy, through their respective companies Horizon Sports & Experiences and Skipper Media, led the negotiations regarding media rights.

Unrivaled's latest funding round has received an investment from TNT Sports, although the amount remains undisclosed. The funding round is expected to close in the near future.

David Zaslav's interest in sports deals involving intellectual property aligns with the investment at Warner Bros. Discovery.
