New York's JFK Airport gets a new lounge courtesy of Capital One.

Capital One is expanding its lounge network to include New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). This lounge will join Capital One's other lounge offerings at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Denver International Airport (DEN). Additionally, Capital One is planning a new lounge experience, Landing, at LaGuardia Airport that will feature the culinary expertise of the José Andrés Group.

CNBC Select has early details on the luxuries and perks of Capital One's planned lounge, as well as how to access it.

How to access Capital One Lounges

With the right credit card, you can access Capital One's lounges for free, while noncardholders can pay a $65 entrance fee.

To enter the lounge, you must present a boarding pass for a same-day departing or connecting flight, regardless of whether you have a card or not. Reservations are not allowed, and lounge access is based on availability. Children under the age of two can enter the lounge for free with an adult.

Cardholder access

Travelers with either the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card or the Capital One Venture X Business, along with their authorized users and account managers, receive unlimited access to the Capital One Venture X Lounge and two complimentary guest entries per visit. Additional guests can access the lounge for $45 each.

Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card and Capital One Spark Miles cardholders currently receive two complimentary lounge visits per year, which can also be used by their authorized users, account managers, or any guests traveling with the cardholder. However, starting January 1, 2025, these cardholders will no longer receive the two free lounge visits every year as Capital One is eliminating the benefit for those cards.

Paid access

You can visit the lounge without a credit card if you have a boarding pass for a same-day departing or connecting flight, but there is a steep $65 entry fee per person per visit.

What to expect at the JFK Capital One Lounge

The Capital One Lounge at JFK will be 13,000 square feet, making it the largest Capital One Lounge yet. It will be located in the retail hall of the airport's Terminal 4 (T4). However, JFK's terminals are not connected by airside walkways, so if you are departing from another terminal, you would need to go through security again in your departure terminal.

T4 hosts several lounges, including two other credit-card-branded lounges:

  • Air India Maharaja Lounge
  • Two Delta Sky Clubs
  • Emirates Lounge
  • Primeclass Lounge
  • Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse

The lounge's design

Capital One's lounge offers a taste of New York City's charm without leaving the airport. The lounge will feature destination-inspired artwork from local artists, including original works on wood, acrylic, silkscreen prints, paintings on canvas/paper, and textile pieces.

The lounge will feature a hanging glass sculpture from Brooklyn-based Shakúff Custom Lighting, which symbolizes the diverse and vibrant experiences of Manhattan through its small glass stones cascading in a flowing form.

A glass fixture above the main bar will incorporate both hand-blown glass and brass elements, evoking the natural elements of New York.

Food and beverages

The lounge's culinary offerings are a tribute to NYC's diverse food and beverage culture, through collaborations with local breweries, mixologists, coffee roasters, and bakeries.

In the JFK location, there will be a bodega in the lounge where travelers can order New York-style coffees and bagels.

A cheesemonger with specialized training will select a variety of artisanal cheeses from the New York region, which will be served with cured meats, housemade accompaniments, and paired with wine and beer.

The JFK lounge will continue its "Perfect Airport Beer" program with a local brewery partner, who will create an exclusive brew to be served at the lounge.

The in-lounge menu at Capital One will consist of locally sourced small plates and a full-service coffee bar.

Amenities

The JFK location will feature amenities such as fully stocked shower suites, power outlets at every seat, and high-speed Wi-Fi, similar to other Capital One Lounges. Further details on the amenities will be provided closer to the lounge's opening.
