The UK economy's growth rate slows down in the second quarter, expanding only 0.6%.

The Office for National Statistics announced on Thursday that the U.K. economy grew by 0.6% in the second quarter of the year, indicating a slow recovery from the recession.

The reading was in line with economists polled by Reuters, and follows a 0.7% expansion in the first quarter.

Economic growth was flat in June, in line with a Reuters poll.

Despite the flat GDP in April due to wet weather, the British economy has experienced steady growth almost every month this year as it exits a shallow recession.

In the second quarter, the economy grew by 0.9% annually, exceeding the forecasted growth of 0.8%.
